Dear Diary,
Today, I learnt that I must be a hideos creature only barely resembling the most primitive, yet extremely deformed humanish shape. How else would you explain my complete incompetence when it comes to create said shapes and creatures – I mean, I’m a human, too, right? Any basic question regarding proportions should be solved easily enough, right?
Starting from a box, more or less following the steps from a tutorial I read ages ago, I was forming it, secretly in the dark, like a forbidden statue of an angry god. Closer and closer to finishing it, I finally felt like it was ready for the moment of truth, ready to show other people what it looked like!
Now, dear diary, this is where the story suddenly takes a horrifying turn for the worse, since it might resemble the looks of a scarecrow put together by a stickman-fanatic, but most definately it didn’t look like a normal human being. The hands were enormous (okay, so there goes my stickman-joke), the arms too small, the legs could have been right from an elephant, the feet only a very dedicated explorer might find, the head was just an extremely primitive round shape with hair basically “sticking out”, no sign of chins or a nose whatsoever. The light of the day, the two weeks time since creation and now, they truly revealed all what was wrong with it, and it definately was a long list.
So today I spent fixing said mistakes, since thats fun, right, diary? Well, that definately depends on how much you like anatomy! Since I, as I believe was already established, don’t spend most of my time looking it up, this was an exciting (not really) new world for me! And amazingly, after just moving a few vertices here and there, scaling a few faces, and generally changing things a bit, it looked a lot better than before (whatever that means, I leave to you).
But… shock! I forgot to model his clothes! Adding these after the rest was done might be described as a nightmare (its probably not to our modeldesign-experts who surely are now laughing in a terrible fashion, pointing their finger at me and wondering how someone can have troubles with such basic steps as those, but still, regardless of all those negative spirits flying in my general direction, I promised to myself that I’d make it, and indeed I did! Yes, soon, the weird extruded faces became a shape resembling sleeves, soon I managed to add a collar. Truly, the creation, while far away from those the most skilled of this profession create, was definately resembling a human!
And so, with a smile on my face, I showed it D, asking if he notices any strange and weird mistakes, anything that needs to be changed – and, of course, he didn’t! So, somewhat triumphantly, I proceeded to show the wireframe, in order to hear how amazing surely this thing will be to animate, after all, I was pretty generous with the…
It’s a horrible polyflow. Doesn’t work. Can’t animate that. Will look horrible. Sorry. Try again.
…
Sigh. This, diary, is where we stand now. The polyflow needs to be fixed – and, thankfully, it’s not all too difficult in this case, but at this rate, there surely will come a new surprise that prevents progress.
Aah, now enough complaining. Work could be accomplished now, right?
