This is a bit embarassing, but whatever. We got a comment on that Blogroll-post! Can you believe that? Probably not. Here’s what it said.
you forgot about mine
Oh. Whoops.
That piece of wisdom came from “Michael Schwarz”, who is pretty active at the Conitec Forums – oh, who am I kidding. “Pretty active”, huh? He’s way beyond “pretty active”, bordering on the level of extremely active. With his more than 5600 posts (at the time of this writing), he’s actually the 11th most active user of all time forever and ever and possible in all other alternate dimensions as well. If you have some time to spare, you can try finding my account on that list, but be sure to pack in some good supplies, because it will actually take a while… I, uhm, I guess? I didn’t look myself. Maybe I’m on the second page or something, I wouldn’t know.
(Addendum: I looked it up. I’m on page two, actually. 2460 posts? How did that happen?)
Now, this user, which is active in the forums, I think we have established that, is also the owner of a blog, which is located here, but before you go there, be warned, as he apparently likes to swear a little here and there: Woo, link. Now, why wasn’t this included in my other blogrollin-blogrollity-blogroll-post? Uhm, well, the reason for that is, err…
I had no clue this blog really existed.
No, wait, this isn’t quite correct. I… I knew it was around, but this fact was buried deep in my memories, in layers I have no direct access to. Only after Michael himself posted about this, I remembered it existed. But still, while I knew it existed, I had no idea what kind of stuff is posted on that website. I still don’t have a real clue, but I believe I have formed an educated guess as to what kind of content it might hold.
The tagline of his blog is: “A blog about 3DGS, Nerds and a lot of other stuff”
Oh, that does sound promising, doesn’t it? In case you don’t know (nobody blames you), “3DGS” is actually the acronym for “3D GameStudio”, the extremely stupid sounding name of a pretty popular Game Development Toolkit. Despite it’s name, you can do pretty nice things with it. “Nerds” are, according to the ever-knowing Wikipedia:
Nerd is a term often bearing a derogatory connotation or stereotype, that refers to a person who passionately pursues intellectual activities, esoteric knowledge, or other obscure interests that are age inappropriate rather than engaging in more social or popular activities. Therefore, a nerd is often excluded from physical activity and considered a loner by peers.
Aww, man. We’re kind of losers, aren’t we? We’re considered “loners”. Well, guess what, I don’t care, I have my “esoteric” knowledge, take that.
(In all honesty… whats wrong with being passionate about something? I know and I agree that at times, this stuff goes beyond “healthy” levels, but in general, its a good thing that people are experts on certain fields, right? Its something that defines their character, in a way)
I do think that “a lot of other stuff” doesn’t require any kind of explanation – even though Wikipedia probably has an article on it (I didn’t check), so let’s see what kind of posts are on this blog!
It pretty prominently features a spot named “Code snippets”, which includes pieces of useable code (maybe. Didn’t test it) – how nice and convenient! Of course, I cannot use this (as our game requires a different movement), but maybe its of use for you! So that’s nice, Michael scores! How does he fare with the other posts?
The next thing that strucks me is the name of categories he uses:
- 3DGS
- Art
So far, that’s pretty okay, don’t you think? 3DGS we already covered, and Art is always nice, now, isn’t it? But then, there are those categories:
- Boredom
- Stupidity
- This Humanity has no future
Whoa. Especially the last one – thats a pretty grim outlook, Michael! Also, why is an overly detailed and maybe hard to understand tutorial a sign for the end of humanity?
But I disgress. Because, apart from those posts, its actually kind of a nice read. I like reading about whats happening in the forum – there are weekly review-posts, and the complete absence of my username is proof that I’m not crazy when I’m surprised that I’m on page two of active-users on that forum. Hah.
So… in the end, I’m kind of torn about this blog. On one hand, there are nice posts, like the code-snippets and the forum-reviews, on the other hand, there are posts that are kind of ruined by swearing (especially when the font size is exaggerated for those words)… but then, maybe thats his style (can swearing be part of ones style?). So maybe you should pay a visit and see how much all of this bothers you, and then decide if this is worth to be bookmarked.
Thank you, and good night.

(…. err, maybe I now need to apologize to Michael? Do I? Uhm, I’m sorry, Michael.)
… wait a minute. Why isn’t this blog in his Blogroll?!
